Lion cub triplets born at Pueblo Zoo

The Pueblo Zoo is exuberant about three bundles of joy who joined the family on October 25th, 2017. Zuri (female), Kamara (female), and Hodari (male) are thriving with their mother, Mashavu. Taz Jahari, father of the Pueblo Zoo’s celebrated

Mumford, sired the cubs. The three cubs, one male and two females, weighed 9.5, 9.3, and 7.9

pounds respectively at their first checkup on November 16th. Now experienced mom,

Mashavu, is calm, nurturing and keeping the cubs well fed.

When can you see the cubs?

New lion cubs Zuri, Kamara, and Hodari are growing up! The cubs will have access to their outdoor exhibit during certain times of day and favorable weather conditions.

Weather Conditions: 45 degrees or warmer, and reliable conditions throughout the remainder of the day. Other conditions may also impact whether or not the cubs are out. Their well-being is our priority!

Time of day: After 1:00pm each afternoon. This time depends on how long our other lions take to shift to their indoor space.

The zoo will be posting regular updates to Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.  Like us on Facebook here!

The Pueblo Zoo is a member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, and an active participant in numerous Species Survival Plan or SSP. These programs allow zoos across the U.S. the ability to manage the population of lions in captivity while ensuring the integrity of genetic diversity.
