Digging in – Mission: Monkeys Breaks Ground at Pueblo Zoo

April 3, 2018

Mission: Monkeys is a go. The project broke ground last week thanks to the generous gifts of donors and supporters of the Pueblo Zoo.

“Our amazing supporters have enabled us to start construction of this new home for the monkeys. We’re proud to have local contractors hard at work building what will be a fun exhibit for guests and a great tourism draw for the community. With continued support, we will be able to raise the remaining funds to add a critical quarantine area to better care for zoo animals and grow in the future.”  says Executive Director Abbie Krause.

Mission: Monkeys will keep the Pueblo Zoo in a position to provide the best care for its animals and the best experience for its guests for generations to come.

The finish line is in sight for Mission: Monkeys, and with the support of generous donors and the community, the Pueblo Zoo will have the project ready for summer. The Zoo’s progress can be checked and donations made at give.pueblozoo.org.

Mission: Monkeys is the final stage of a large capital project at the zoo, which will create a large modern De Brazza’s monkey exhibit to complement the African painted dogs exhibit. The project also includes a quarantine space, which will allow incoming animals to adjust to their new home in a safe area, as well as allow animals recovering from procedures (or new moms with babies!) to have a spot to take it easy.
