SAFE

Extinction is forever.

Learn how you can help.

The mission of AZA SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction is to combine

the power of zoo and aquarium visitors with the resources and collective

expertise of AZA members and partners to save animals from extinction.

Together we are saving the most vulnerable wildlife species from
extinction and protecting them for future generations.

Zoos and aquariums are leaders in saving species from extinction.

  • For decades, AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums have been saving endangered species from extinction. In fact, more than 30 species are currently being saved, including the American bison, the California condor and a variety of aquatic species.

  • AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums invest $160 million every year in field conservation work to save animals and their habitats around the world.

  • With more than 600 Species Survival Plans® (SSPs) already in place, AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums have the infrastructure to save species.

VISIT

One of the easiest conservation actions you can take is to visit your local AZA-accredited zoo and aquarium.

By doing so, you directly support the collaborative efforts of hundreds of researchers, field conservationists and scientists from AZA-accredited zoos and aquarium working together to save animals from extinction.

PARTICIPATE

You can also support AZA SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction (AZA SAFE) through some innovative and fun partnerships.

Download and play TailsUp!, a free game app that will

test your knowledge of animals in a fun and new way –

by identifying animals from behind! The purchase of

additional in-game animal packs will directly benefit AZA SAFE.

Giving directly to a variety of efforts to help save species is another way you can help. You can donate to any of the ongoing conservation efforts occurring at your local AZA-accredited zoo or aquarium, or to one of many AZA SAFE conservation partners that can be found at www.aza.org/donate-to-aza.
